How to choose the Best Diapers For Babies Who Pee A Lot
As I mentioned at the beginning, the choices that every mother has to make are not as simple as they seem, especially despite the thousands and more tips you will receive, what will count will only be your experience and what you as a mother would consider best for your little one.
What I can do is give you advice based also on my experience as a mother.
When I choose the diaper for my little one, I generally make a careful evaluation of the aspects that I will list below.
Absorbency level
Newborn babies and for all their first months of life make a lot of pee and poo is very liquid because of their diet based solely and exclusively on milk, whether it is breast or formula, it makes no difference.
The first time I changed a diaper I was in the hospital, when my son was born, the nursery nurses told me, go ahead, but I didn't even know where to start. Little by little, nappy after nappy everything becomes easier and you learn to understand which product is best suited to your baby's skin.
I must say that in this respect I was very lucky, for us a little cream is enough and everything passes, but I must say that I have tried many, Pampers, Huggies and others, some of them I changed because they did not keep, when I went to change the baby, even after a very short time from the last change I found the bodies wet, not to mention the poo.
Often the combination of a low absorbency level for liquid poop and a poorly resistant upper elastic band caused unpleasant incidents in which I was forced to immediately bathe the little one who was completely dirty.
So yes, absorbency is one of the most noticeable and you will notice features in a diaper, but you will have to experiment because each baby is unique.

Comfort
In addition to crying, your child in the first months of life will not be able to tell you if he or she fits well with a diaper, and believe me this will be the one that will send you on tilt the most in moments when he will cry in despair and you will not be able to understand why.
So always look at everything, see if the diaper leaves marks on the skin, check between the legs if by chance the rubber bands tighten it too much, see that the skin remains dry and the ass does not get red.
Only in this way will you be able to understand if the diaper is suitable for your baby's skin and if it is not appropriate to change brand or model.
Unfortunately, a lot of the work of us mothers is based on instinct, but don't worry, nothing difficult, sooner or later it will dominate to talk and tell you if there is something wrong.
Double elastic barriers for greater safety against leaks
If you want to avoid having to change clothes at every diaper change, consider double elastic barriers.
Do you see that double veil present where the elastics of the legs are? It will be just what will save you from a lot of problems, fighting spills.
So when you find yourself choosing, don't underestimate the double elastic barriers, especially if you want to avoid doing a few more washing machines. Obviously, as we will see later this discussion applies only and exclusively if you decide to use disposable diapers, not relying on washable diapers that are so fashionable now.

Material safety
The quality when it comes to your baby is never too much, if we can make some sacrifices, for them I am not worth the same, so choose diapers that are of high quality that ensure your baby a unique dry experience. Based on reviews, recommendations, what you want, try more than one product and find the one that is right for you at 360 degrees.
So yes to super absorbent double elastic bands, yes to central channels that are able to divert the flow of the liquid, but also pay attention to what there is or not between the materials with which the diaper was created.
Read each label carefully and choose the product that does not contain any type of oil, perfume, or whitening elements such as chlorine.
They are all substances that can irritate the delicate skin of the baby, therefore it is necessary to pay extreme attention and avoid that they are contained in the product that is most in contact with very delicate areas of the baby.
Always remember that attention is never too much, choose the best for your little one because I know that this is what you will constantly look for throughout his and your life together.
Wet indicator
The best baby diapers are the ones that ensure the best possible level of dryness, gentleness on the skin. The best models on the market are equipped with the wet indicator which if I have to be honest until today I didn't even know it existed, I had never paid attention to this.
A baby who is always dry, thanks the high absorbency of the diaper, does not realize when it is wet and therefore may never cry because the diaper is too full. It is for this reason that the major diaper brands have introduced a reactive substance that changes color in contact with pee and when the diaper is too full, you will notice it by the color change.
In this way, you will know perfectly when it is time for the change and also you will not have to open the diaper to know if it is wet or not.
Perfumes
With most of the major brands of diapers, you will only need to open the package to realize that they are full of perfumes and emollients, but these products will not always prove to be optimal for the health of your baby skin.
Why should you choose a fragrance-free diaper? It is not difficult to understand, perfumes are still substances of chemical derivation, and most of the time on the label of the diaper are not shown all the individual components of which they are composed, so you can not be sure what will be in contact with the skin. of the child and whether this could lead to problems.
Perfumes are used only and exclusively to cover odors, but they do not solve the problem, they only disguise it, so why use it? It has no specific function that can affect the efficiency and effectiveness of the diaper, so it is nothing essential.

Panty or classics
The doubts and questions that new mothers like us ask themselves in a spontaneous way, to say the least, were not enough, the fears and all the perplexities that accompany the expectation of the first child and his first months, not to mention all the years to follow. In recent years a new product has made its way by adding a further doubt, the panty nappies, the ones that fit exactly like a pair of briefs and do not have the tears like the classic nappies we are all used to.
But which is the best choice? The panties seem so comfortable to wear, yes but little enthusiasm mum, let's talk about it after you try to change your son while he cries and barks in despair for no apparent reason.
The panty nappies promise a better fit, have the same absorbency as classic models, and can be washable or disposable. There are diapers of this type suitable for every age of the child, different sizes to accompany the little nothing as it grows on the market.
The widespread idea is that panty nappies are perfect for your baby when he starts standing because you can change him without having to keep him lying on the changing table, which will start to become almost impossible over time. A further advantage brought by these models is the ease with which it will then be possible to undertake another important stage, that of spannolinare because the child will be able to lower the diaper alone to make it in the potty.
I personally would advise against it in the very first months of life, in any case, as already said several times, everything will depend on you, on your experience, and on how you decide to organize the life and growth of your baby. The difference is based solely and exclusively on the wearability, as in terms of the abrasiveness and softness on the skin, they are in all respects the same as classic diapers.
Cut it
When my son was born and we were due to be discharged, I told my partner, who by the way already has another daughter, to go and buy diapers. In this way I created the panic, what size do we take? Very timidly I went to the nursery to ask the nurses and they told me that in the hospital they used the 1 but they told me that there was also the zero. But my son is one of the three pigs so 1 went well and in less than a month I switched to 2.
When you buy nappies you will see these numbers on the packages and under a weight range, for each size, there are kgs, starting from zero which goes from 2 to 4 kg, up to 5 which can reach up to 25 kg.
However, you will discover over time that yes, the weight does matter, but you must also keep an eye on how the little one grows if he is more or less tall or more or less plump. So for the choice, you can orient yourself both on the weight and on how the diapers actually fit on the baby.
Single-use
In 8 months as a mother, I have used only and exclusively disposable diapers, not because I do not consider the washable ones up to par, but because in my hectic life as a mother, they seem much more practical to me, the environment will forgive me for this.
Actually, it's true, you will use a lot of disposable diapers, and unfortunately, they are not really biodegradable, or at least this is true for the vast majority of the big brands.
But remember that even in our guide we have included a 100% natural and biodegradable disposable nappy, very respectful of the environment.
Washable
For the next child, I promise to try them when by now I will be a more experienced mother, even if you will teach me that even the 3rd or 4th child is never ready to face motherhood because every child is different. Very environmentally friendly, after all, their ancestors have been used by our mothers and grandmothers for decades.
What is certain is that cotton and microfibre are very delicate on the skin and therefore it is a product particularly suitable for babies who have rather delicate skin, who do not tolerate perfumes and microparticles present in normal diapers.
So if your child has particularly delicate skin and not even the most miraculous creams can help him, try washable, they might be a surprise.
Frequent questions
As a mother, I have always asked a lot of questions to those who knew more than me, especially during pregnancy, but I must admit that I have always decided to do my own thing and I hope you do the same. This is the reason why I have repeatedly told you that you will have to do what your experience will lead you to learn, you are a mother and you know very well what is best for your child.
But let's see together what are the most frequently asked questions that you probably too, at least once you have asked yourself, will try to help you.
Disposable or washable diaper: pros and cons
Before disposable diapers, washable ones were used and for some years now we are returning in that direction, especially as regards many women, as they would be environmentally friendly products and should also guarantee significant savings. economically.
In addition, the washable nappies adapt perfectly to different sizes and are completely hypoallergenic; completely natural fiber products are very easy to wash and remove stains, nothing to do with those used decades ago by our grandmothers.
The washable items respect the baby's skin, their breathable power prevents sweat and excessive heat, making it much more comfortable for the baby.
Without a doubt, however, washable nappies require more work on your part, which you will not have to do the simple gesture of throwing away the used nappy, but you will have to wash it and put it in the sun to dry and this if you are the first child, for which you will have to understand how you organize and if you are a working mom, it certainly does not be the best choice.
If you and your baby are used to going out, going to grandparents, or anywhere else, consider that you will have to take the dirty nappy with you until you are home, and some kindergartens do not accept cloth nappies. So as with everything you will use for your little one, you will have to decide based on how you will organize your life and that of your child.
Disposable diapers are much more practical, accepted by all kindergartens. In this case, however, what really matters is your ability to choose the best product, which guarantees the right dryness, which does not irritate the skin, which does not contain chlorine or petroleum derivatives. Choose a product that is soft and respectful of the skin and above all do not fossilize on a single choice, try all the products and decide which is the best for your needs.
Panties or classics?
As long as your little one will be on the changing table calmly and will not be able to stand alone, opt for classic diapers, you would have no convenience in choosing a panty that would also be difficult for you to manage during the change. Avoid complicating your life.
Which diaper size to choose
As for the size, keep an eye on your child's weight, but also his build. Remember that the sizes have a rather wide weight range so you can use them for a long time without necessarily having to switch to the larger size.
For the first few days, unless there are complications, such as premature birth or an excessively small baby, use size 1 immediately, do not start from scratch.
Where do you throw nappies?
The child did his business, you changed him, and now what do we do with the bundle? Let's say that it is a hot topic in homes, regardless of the diaper, where to throw waste, how to divide it to make a correct separate collection.
The diapers are thrown in the dry residue, more commonly called undifferentiated.
How much do diapers cost?
When they tell you that a child involves a lot of expenses, they certainly refer to what you will spend on diapers, if you decide to use washable nappies you will have a rather important saving, even if 6 washable nappies on Amazon will cost you just over 100 euros but you can use them for a considerable time, considering that they adapt to various sizes.
In the various discount stores you can buy disposable diapers cheaply and if you think that it is a good product for your little one, do not hesitate to use them. You will be able to buy a good product at a cost of around 15 euros for 100 diapers.
As for the big brands, for a hundred nappies you will pay a price that will range between 30 and 36 euros.
Where is it worth buying diapers?
When you become a mother you will understand the importance of offers, E-Commerce Shops, hypermarkets, supermarkets, personal hygiene shops will periodically offer the opportunity to buy products at a very affordable price. The same is true if you usually shop on the internet and especially on Amazon where you can buy megapacks with a large number of diapers.
In my experience I can tell you not to stock up either before the baby is born, or before 6 months, it will grow so fast that you may not be able to use the mega stock you have made. After 6 months your baby's weight will continue to increase but more slowly so you can decide to stock up by purchasing the megapacks on the internet at very advantageous prices.
How to change the diaper
If our baby smells unpleasant, but even if he cries incessantly for no reason, it is likely that his diaper needs to be changed. With practice, as with all other things, you will learn to understand it simply by touching it or by gently inserting a finger inside to test its humidity.
To avoid diaper rash that often occurs on areas of the skin that are touched by the diaper, make sure it is always dry, so change it at the right times and dry the baby well after cleaning. If the erythema has already manifested, a soothing or insulating ointment must be applied, so as not to rub the skin again.
The diaper must be changed with a few, simple gestures:
- place the baby on the changing table gently,
- open both diaper ties and open the diaper,
- if the baby has only peed, just clean the genital area with a little warm water, if he has pooped, first pass a pad moistened with warm water to clean up and then cleanse with a sponge and mild baby soap,
- dry carefully, gently insisting on the pleats area,
- apply a thin layer of specific cream,
- take a clean diaper and open it,
- lift the legs together and pass the diaper under the bottom, widening the straps well,
- close the straps making sure that it is not too tight but not too loose (just see if you can put your index finger in the edge at the navel),
- arrange the external seams and the rear edge along the back: the nappy must be well arranged both to make the baby comfortable and to avoid spills.
Finally, a consideration on what you need to have on hand on the changing table. What must never be missing in the station we use for the change?
- Stock up on diapers,
- tub with hot water,
- sponge and large discs,
- creams and lotions,
- towel,
- a toy to entertain the child during the change so that the operation is easier for you too.
FAQs
What Diapers Hold The Most Pee?
The amount of pee a diaper can hold depends on the size of the diaper, the absorbent material used, and the quality of the product. However, in general, diapers labeled as "overnight" or "extra absorbent" are designed to hold more pee than regular diapers.
Some of the brands that are known for having high absorbency and holding the most pee include Pampers Baby Dry, Huggies OverNites, Luvs Triple Leakguards, and Honest Overnight diapers. These brands are specifically designed for nighttime use and can keep the baby dry for several hours.
It is important to note that it is still necessary to change a wet diaper as soon as possible to prevent diaper rash and discomfort for the baby.
Do Pampers Or Huggies Hold More Pee?
The absorbency of diapers can vary depending on the specific product and size. However, both Pampers and Huggies are popular diaper brands known for their high absorbency and ability to hold a lot of pee.
In general, Pampers Baby Dry diapers are known for their overnight protection and ability to hold up to 12 hours of wetness, making them a great choice for parents who want their babies to sleep through the night. On the other hand, Huggies OverNites are designed to keep the baby dry for up to 12 hours and have extra padding in the front and back for added protection against leaks.
Ultimately, the choice between Pampers and Huggies comes down to personal preference and what works best for your baby's unique needs. It may take some trial and error to find the brand and type of diaper that works best for your baby.
Why Does Pee Keep Coming Out Of My Baby's Diaper?
If pee is constantly leaking out of your baby's diaper, it could be due to a few reasons:
- The diaper may not be the right size: If the diaper is too small, it will not be able to hold all of the urine and may leak. Make sure to check the size of the diaper and adjust it accordingly.
- The diaper may not be fitted properly: If the diaper is not snug around the baby's legs and waist, urine can escape through the gaps. Make sure to adjust the diaper to fit securely.
- Your baby may be drinking too much: If your baby is drinking more than usual, it may produce more urine than the diaper can hold. Make sure to monitor your baby's feeding and adjust as needed.
- The diaper may not be absorbent enough: If the diaper is not able to absorb all of the urine, it may leak. Consider switching to a more absorbent diaper brand or type.
If you have tried adjusting the diaper size and fit, monitoring your baby's feeding, and using a more absorbent diaper and the issue persists, it may be best to consult with your pediatrician.
Which Diaper Absorbs The Most Water?

How Many Pee Can A Pampers Diaper Hold?

What Diapers Don't Leak Overnight?
Many diaper brands offer products specifically designed for overnight use that are less likely to leak. Some popular options include Pampers Baby Dry, Huggies OverNites, Luvs Ultra Leakguards, and Seventh Generation Overnight Diapers. These diapers are typically made with extra absorbent materials and features such as double leg cuffs or extra waistband elastic to help prevent leaks. Ultimately, the best diaper for overnight use will depend on the individual child's needs and body shape, so it may require some trial and error to find the most effective option.
Which Is Better Between Pampers And Huggies?
The choice between Pampers and Huggies diapers often comes down to personal preference and the needs of the individual baby. Both brands are well-known and trusted, and offer a range of diaper options for different ages and stages.
In terms of absorbency, both brands have high-performing diapers that are designed to hold a lot of liquid and prevent leaks. Some parents find that Pampers are softer and more comfortable for their babies, while others prefer the fit and durability of Huggies diapers.
Ultimately, it may take some trial and error to determine which brand works best for your baby. It's a good idea to try both brands and see which one fits well and provides the most effective leak protection.
How Many Times Can Baby Pee In Diaper?
Babies can pee several times a day, and the frequency can vary depending on their age and how much they are eating and drinking. Newborns may urinate as many as 20 times a day, while older babies may urinate between 6-8 times a day.
The number of times a baby can pee in a diaper depends on the diaper's absorbency and the baby's bladder capacity. Generally, a good quality diaper can hold up to several wettings without leaking. However, it's important to change the diaper frequently to prevent rashes and irritation on the baby's delicate skin. Experts recommend changing the diaper every two to three hours, or as soon as it becomes wet or soiled.
Why Do Some Babies Pee So Much?
Babies may pee frequently for various reasons, including:
- Immature bladder: Babies have small bladders that cannot hold much urine, so they need to pee frequently.
- Breastfeeding: Breast milk is easily digested, so babies need to feed more often, which can lead to more frequent peeing.
- Hydration: Babies who drink a lot of fluids, whether breast milk or formula, may pee more often.
- Urinary tract infection: In some cases, frequent urination in babies may be a sign of a urinary tract infection, which requires medical attention.
If you are concerned about your baby's frequent peeing, it is best to consult a pediatrician to rule out any underlying medical conditions.
Is It Normal For Babies To Pee A Lot?
Yes, it is normal for babies to pee a lot. Babies have small bladders and need to urinate frequently, especially in the first few months of life. Newborns may wet their diapers as many as 12 times a day, and even older babies can wet their diapers 6 to 8 times a day or more.
Frequent urination is a sign that a baby is well-hydrated and getting enough milk or formula. However, if you notice that your baby is peeing significantly more or less than usual or has any other unusual symptoms, it is best to consult with a pediatrician.
How Much Pee Should Be In A Wet Diaper?
For newborns, a wet diaper usually contains at least 1-2 tablespoons (15-30 ml) of urine. As the baby grows and consumes more milk or formula, the amount of urine in the diaper will also increase. Generally, a wet diaper should feel heavy and have visible moisture on the outside of the diaper. If the diaper is only slightly damp or feels lightweight, it may not have enough urine and could indicate that the baby is not getting enough to eat or is dehydrated.
What Absorbs The Pee In Diapers?
The absorbent material in diapers that absorbs urine is usually a type of polymer called sodium polyacrylate. Sodium polyacrylate is a super absorbent polymer that can absorb many times its weight in liquid. It is often in the form of small beads that are scattered throughout the interior of the diaper.
When urine comes into contact with sodium polyacrylate, it turns into a gel, which helps to keep the moisture away from the baby's skin and prevents leaks. The outer layer of the diaper is usually made of waterproof material, such as polyethylene, to prevent any liquid from leaking out of the diaper.
What Holds More Pee A Diaper Or Pull Up?
Diapers typically hold more pee than pull-ups as they are designed for overnight use and have higher absorbency. Pull-ups are generally designed for daytime use and potty training and may have less absorbency than diapers.
However, the absorbency of both diapers and pull-ups can vary depending on the brand and size. It's important to choose the right size and type of diaper or pull-up for your child's age, weight, and activity level to ensure maximum absorbency and leak protection.
How Do I Choose Baby Diapers?
Choosing the right baby diapers can be overwhelming, but here are some factors to consider when making a decision:
- Size: Make sure you choose the right size for your baby. Check the weight and age range on the package to ensure a good fit.
- Absorbency: Choose diapers with enough absorbency for your baby's needs. If your baby is a heavy wetter, consider choosing a diaper with extra absorbency or using overnight diapers for longer periods.
- Comfort: Look for diapers that are soft and gentle on your baby's skin. Some babies may have sensitive skin, so choose diapers made from hypoallergenic and chemical-free materials.
- Price: Consider your budget and how much you can afford to spend on diapers. Keep in mind that higher-priced diapers may offer better features, such as extra absorbency or softness.
- Brand: There are many diaper brands available, so choose a brand that you trust and that meets your needs.
Ultimately, the best way to choose the right diaper for your baby is to try a few different options and see which one works best for you and your baby.
